F.A. Charter Standard

Ludgvan Lions Junior Football Club is very proud to announce their success in achieving the Football Association's "Charter Standard Award for Clubs". The Club is one of the first in the Penwith District and one of the youngest in the UK to be awarded the Charter.

"Becoming a F.A. Charter Standard Club can assure parents that we are serious about the training and ultimately the care of their children. The aim of the Club is to educate children in all aspects of football to the highest standards, in a safe and friendly atmosphere" said Club Chairperson Helen Maloney.

Club Secretary, Jane Rodda, explained that the Club had been founded in April of 2000 and although still in its infancy now boasts a remarkable membership of over 80 youngsters ranging from five to eleven years of age, travelling from all corners of the County. The Club is open to all youngsters whatever their ability and gender, although added Jane we have now had to introduce a waiting list for some age groups due to high demand.

All the Club's Managers are trained to F.A. standard, with training modules including Child Protection, First Aid, Practical Football skills etc., The majority of the Lions Managers are themselves ex league footballers who are now able to pass on their skills and expertise to another generation.

Helen confirmed that the Club had grown from strength to strength in the last two years and both Officers, Managers and of course the young Lions themselves were thrilled to receive the FA Charter Standard Award as an acknowledgement of their commitment and hard work.

Geoff Crudgington, Community Officer for Plymouth Argyle Football Club and President of Ludgvan Lions acknowledged "it is obviously a great achievement for the Club to obtain the Charter Standard Award. It is particularly pleasing for me having been involved in youth development for many years to see all the hard work that has been put in by everyone involved at Ludgvan Lions rewarded in this way"

The "FA Nationwide Charter Standard Launch" aims to recruit 3,000 of the best Clubs in England to take part in the project. Backing the launch were England and Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp and England Womens Captain Mo Morley. Charter Standard Club Awards are reviewed every three years and the Lions will now be working towards ensuring they keep up their high standards.

"My Dad knew where to send me to get a proper football education but most Mums and Dads aren't that lucky. Thats why The FA Charter Standard for clubs is such a good idea. For the first time, parents will know the best clubs in their local area to coach their children" Jamie Redknapp. (England & Liverpool FC)
